We got so many wonderful entries in our mompreneur contest. It so wonderful to see how many moms are creating innovative and adorable products for our kids.
But we could only have one winner….KT STEPPERS! Congrats to it’s founder Katie. Here is a little Q&A we did with Katie to learn more about her and her adorable steppers. To win one of Katie’s adorable custom Cricket Steppers visit us on FB today.
1. How did you get started in the baby business? Well, after having one, then two, it just seemed natural that there was ‘baby on the brain’. All my friends & family started having babies at the same time so the idea of a personal and memorable (& useful) gift came to mind.
2. How do you balance motherhood and business? Balance is the key word. Motherhood is my first priority and I balance everything else around that schedule. My business and company is very important, but I have the flexibility to work odd hours with it. Late nights, early morning, naptimes, etc…. I think keeping my priorities in order makes it easier to balance both jobs.
3. Best selling product/pattern? Our featured product is the Cricket Stepper. It is Eco-friendly (made from parawood & painted with water-based paints & sealers) and it’s 4-legged design makes it sturdy and durable. Out best selling design for girls is ‘The Ladybug’ and for the boys it is the ‘Bi-Plane Classic’.
4. Best business moment? Wow, the day I opened up Kt Steppers was a huge moment, but the best business moment was making our national TV debut on E! News last year for Giuliana Rancic’s Holiday Gift Guide. She found us on twitter and wanted our steppers for the kids must-have list!

I love being categorized as a Mompreneur. You could say being a ‘MOMpreneur’ means more to me than words can explain. The summer before my junior year in college, my life, vision, and future plans all came to a halt. Headaches, vision problems, and lactation were just a few symptoms I encountered before I learned that I had a brain tumor. I don”t know many people who can say this, but I had brain surgery when I was 22 years old to remove a benign (thank goodness) tumor on my pituitary gland. It was so large that surgical removal was crucial; otherwise it would’ve continued to more severely affect my vision and pituitary functions.
Because of the tumor’s location and size, the possibility of not having children could have been very real. So, as you can imagine, I am very proud of my mom-owned company. I wanted a kid-friendly business since that is whom I spend my days, hours and minutes with, and can’t imagine it any other way now. I am a mom of two boys, ages 5 and 3. They have become my support and inspiration for Kt Steppers.
I found there was a great need for that “special something” to give as a gift for a birth, birthday, the new “big” brother or sister, or to add a personal touch to a baby registry item. Our ‘Steppers’ are a special, custom and personal way to say “You’re one of a kind!”
