Swaddling Must-Haves

One of the most essential items an expectant mom should have on her registry is a swaddle blanket (in fact, many). Whether you choose to wrap up baby the old fashioned way or employ one of the easier methods, swaddling is a must.

How to Swaddle

Why do we swaddle? Swaddling, or wrapping, provides the warmth and security baby experienced in the womb. It also helps prevent SIDS by encouraging babies to sleep on their backs. In addition, the tightness of the wrap around their arms helps keep them from being disturbed by their startle reflex, which can awaken them. Most parents swear by swaddling because baby sleeps for longer stretches when wrapped.

Here are some swaddling must-haves for any situation:

For the Traditionalist: Aden & Anais Swaddle – These have become a new mom staple since they hit the scene. Not only are these muslin cotton blankets great for a classic swaddle wrap, but they double as a breathable receiving blanket. The four-packs come in beautiful designs with organic as well as luxe bamboo options.

For the Swaddling-for-Dummies Set: Summer Infant Swaddle-Me – Think of this as the best way to swaddle in the shortest amount of time. These “ready-to-wear” options have soft, stretchy fabric to keep them wrapped tight and Velcro tabs that make it a breeze for any new parent to master.

For the Summer Baby: Aden & Anais Easy Swaddle – The designs on these are gorgeous and the muslin material is perfect if you’re concerned about overheating in the summer. The snap closure helps the baby stay secure.

For the Fashion-Forward: Woombie Mod Swad – These luxurious swaddles are made from the finest fabrics, like bamboo and merino wool. They offer adjustable length and zip closure in beautiful designs.

Whether you’re expecting for the first time or you’re a second time mom needing to brush up on your baby wrapping skills, never underestimate the power of the swaddle.
